Huon Hooke is a leading independent wine writer who makes his living entirely out of writing, judging, lecturing and educating about wine.
He is best known for his columns in the Sydney Morning Herald Good Food section and he judges about ten wine competitions a year in Australia and overseas.
Since 1984 he has won nine awards for wine writing. The latest is the 2018 Legend of the Vine, awarded by Wine Communicators of Australia for his outstanding contribution to the Australian wine industry.
“This vintage surprised and delighted me and other members of our club. The wines seemed riper and richer, fuller, more complete and more approachable in youth than I’d expected” Huon Hooke ‘Real Review’ article July 2018.
Decanter consultant editor Steven Spurrier remarked that 2015 was a very modern Bordeaux vintage. “It’s not like Bordeaux 10 years ago, when tannins could be hard as nails. In 2015, the fruit dominates the tannins and the acidity.”
Wines selected by Huon below:
Lafon Rochet, 4ème Cru
Pichon-Longueville Baron, 2ème Cru
Haut-Batailley, 5ème Cru
Langoa-Barton, 3éme Cru
PESSAC LEOGNAN / GRAVES

Croix de Mai, Medoc
La Dominique, Grand Cru Classé
