Big surf for Bendalong weekend
Report by Ken Glover
The 5th annual visit to Bendalong on the weekend was another great success with up to 20 Members, family and friends enjoying a relaxing weekend away from Sydney.
The visitors once again enjoyed Glenn Atkins' hospitality and were rewarded with some good surf conditions. There were some last minute no shows, and we all agreed it was the thought of some big surf that spooked them.
The Southerly swell continued over the weekend and averaged 4 - 5 feet both days. Sunday morning was the pick, with some nice clean waves breaking at Monument beach. Frank Coyne also reported that Green Island was firing on the Friday.
Two Breakfast Tierney's reputation in choosing the best location was further eroded when he suggested Back Beach Bendalong on Sunday morning. Luckily he was outvoted and the result was some great surf at Monument Beach. As expected, the Goofy footers were the pick of the bunch, with Tim Maunsell and Glenn's brother Jimmy especially, slashing and burning the clean walls.
On Saturday evening the Trough Lollies excelled with the entertainment at the traditional BBQ. and brought some new material to the intimate atmosphere. Thanks to Frank and Clarissa Coyne for providing the succulent beef.
The Dugong was his usual self, a bit out of sorts in the big surf, and his weekend culminated with a flat tyre and his keys locked in the boot.
Another great weekend at Bendalong.
