No swim suits sighted at The Big Swim

After Saturday's blistering heat, Tatts members gathered in more pleasant conditions at Palm Beach for the Big Swim, a 2.7km swim from Palm Beach to neighbouring Whale Beach. There was some suggestion that the distance was a little longer due to the placement of the final bouey at Whale beach, but that just added to the challenge.
There were some reasonable waves and a lot of other swimmers to negotiate on the swim out of Palm beach before settling in to the long swim around the seemingly endless headland. The south east swell created a nice washing machine effect, especially for those who ventured in closer to the headland, but that just added to the enjoyment. However all the Tatt's swimmers made it ashore, with John de Mestre triumphing in his age category and finishing a very respectable 14th overall.
Following last week's SMH article (including comments from Member Peter Thiel) on The Big Swim's organisers decision to ban swim suits, there were none in site and it was all back to the traditional speedos.
Special thanks to Artie Sanches and Bart Brys who were on hand at the Tattersalls tent for post swim massages, cold drinks, and replenishments.
