Record crowds for Tatts Race day

Up to 10,000 attended Tattersalls Club's annual September race day at Royal Randwick on Saturday. 

With superb spring weather, the crowd enjoyed excellent racing including three of Tattersalls group races, the Chelmsford Stakes, Furious Stakes and Tramway Handicap.

The Chelmsford Stake is used as an important lead up races to important Group races including the George Main Stakes, Cox Plate, Epsom Handicap and Hill Stakes. Some brilliant horses have won the Chelmsford Stakes over the years including Lonhro, Might And Power, Kingston Town, Tulloch, plus the mighty Phar Lap.

AJC Derby winner Roman Emperor (NZ) and AJC Doncaster Mile winner Vision and Power (NZ) headlined the 1600m Chelmsford Stakes which included 10 horses in the $151,800 race. The results were first O'Lonhro, second Miss Marielle and third - NZ horse Triple Honour.

The winner of the $125,000 Tramway Handicap (1400m), included first Rangirangdoo, second Strat's Flyer and third Murray's Sun. The third Tattersalls race, the Furious Stakes included Melito in first, second Hurtle Myrtle and third Lovemelikearock.

Members should now pencil in our next Race day - the first race day at Royal Randwick for the year - Tattersalls Club New Years race day on 1 January 2010.
