Our Sauna provides several benefits for our Athletic Department members and guests. Several studies have shown that regular sauna sessions can support muscle recovery, alleviate joint pain, and boost circulation.
The heat from the dry sauna encourages relaxation, lowers stress, and can even enhance sleep and immune health. The Club’s calming environment helps eliminate toxins through sweat, promoting overall well-being, both physically and mentally.
Setor Kunutsor, a cardiologist from the University of Manitoba, thinks of saunas as a source of controlled, gentle stress. A short burst of heat gets the heart pumping faster, blood vessels opening wider, and the body beginning to sweat. These changes look a lot like what happens during a brisk walk. “A standard 15-minute sauna session triggers the same heart-rate and circulation boost you’d expect from moderate exercise,” says Dr Kunutsor.
Our sauna is part of the three-sided construct of our wellness offerings. The first being our ice baths, the sauna second, and the steam room our third item (which we will touch on next week).
If you are a first-time sauna user, we encourage you to take it slowly, aiming for five minutes. Over time, build up your tolerance and levels. Remember to stay hydrated and listen to your body.
If you have any questions regarding the sauna or usage, please reach out to our Athletic Team who can answer your questions at [email protected]
