We are pleased to have the owner of Red Mill Rum and sixth-generation wine and spirits merchant David Fesq at the Club to take us through some Rum tasting whilst discussing the story about family, the history of Sydney, Rum and doing something that hasn’t been done before.
Red Mill Rum is a Sydney-based rum producer that relaunched in 2020, reviving a brand that was popular in the city in the 1930s. It’s now located in White Bay, under the guidance of David Fesq, the great-grandson of the original founder.
David Fesq comes from a long line of wine merchants: his ancestor, George Fesq, started selling Bordeaux wines in Sydney in 1848. The company has always sold spirits, too, and in 1933, it established its own rum brand, Red Mill, sourcing spirit distilled by the chemists at the CSR sugar refinery in Sydney’s Pyrmont, and maturing it in barrels at Fesq’s warehouse in The Rocks.
