If you have been doing these puzzles, you may notice the trend of self-sacrifice or, in chess terms, ‘a gambit’.
In this case, the White Castle (Rook) on A1 goes to C1. This forces either of Black’s pawns to take one of the castles, as they are his only legal moves. Depending on what Black takes, you can move the Castle onto either C8 or D8, and it will be Checkmate.
