DESCRIPTION:Wednesday 29 April from 18:00 to 20:00 in the Members Bar. \nWhite to checkmate in two moves! \nApril’s puzzle moves away from the idea of a gambit or in other words\, a self-sacrifice and focuses more on the pinning technique. Are you able to figure it out? \nJoin us on the last Wednesday of each month for a night of chess\, open to all skill levels. Face off against fellow members in a relaxed yet engaging atmosphere\, where good competition thrives in our Bar! \nAnd since chess builds an appetite\, we encourage you to make the most of our weekly pizza and pasta night specials. \nMake sure to make the right move and RSVP today! \n\nClick here to find out the answer!\nIf you are a fan of these puzzles\, you know we have a pattern of including a gambit; however\, we try something different today. Today\, we look at the concept of Zugzwang. A term used to describe when a player is put at a disadvantage because it is their turn to move\, often forced into it. Here we have the White Rook on F3\, which we will move to B3. This forces the Black King on A6 to A5\, as there are no other possible moves on the board\, since we just blocked the Black Pawn on B4 from moving. Now with the king on A5\, we can finally move the rook to A3. Due to our Zugzwang earlier\, the Black Pawn on B4 is now pinned by the Bishop on E1\, the White Rook covers the A Column\, and the White King blocks all other options\, forcing a checkmate. \n\n  \nRegister Now
