SUMMARY:Discover the Elegance of French Wine at this month’s Wine Tasting!
DESCRIPTION:Thursday 4 June from 18:00 to 19:00 in the Members Bar. Cost: Complimentary for Members and $10 for guests \nFor more than 2\,000 years\, French wine has shaped the way the world thinks about winemaking. From the vineyards first planted by the Romans to the monastery cellars of Burgundy and the famous estates of Bordeaux and the Rhône Valley\, each bottle carries not only flavour\, but centuries of tradition\, craftsmanship\, and regional identity. \nFrench wine has always been deeply connected to place. The rolling hills of Burgundy\, the limestone soils of Chablis\, the sun-drenched Rhône Valley\, and the cool vineyards of the Loire each produce wines with their own distinct personality\, shaped by terroir\, climate\, and generations of winemaking knowledge. It is this remarkable diversity that has made French wine one of the most celebrated and enduring wine cultures in the world. \nJoin us for a warm and inviting evening of French wine discovery as we explore four exceptional wines\, each representing a different corner of France and a unique expression of style and history. \nTête de Cuvée Château-Fuissé \nThe evening begins in Burgundy with the elegant richness of Tête de Cuvée Château-Fuissé\, produced in the Mâconnais region and known for its layered and expressive Chardonnay style. \nTasting Notes:\n• Ripe peach and apricot aromas\n• Citrus zest and lemon curd notes\n• Subtle hazelnut and toasted almond character\n• Creamy texture with balanced minerality\n• Elegant oak influence with vanilla and butter hints\n• Long\, refined finish \nMoreau & Fils Gloire de Chablis \nFrom there\, we travel north to Chablis with J. Moreau & Fils Gloire de Chablis\, a beautifully crisp and mineral-driven Chardonnay shaped by cool climate and limestone soils. \nTasting Notes:\n• Green apple and pear aromas\n• Bright lemon and grapefruit character\n• Flinty minerality and oyster-shell notes\n• Crisp acidity with a clean\, dry palate\n• Light-bodied and refreshing\n• Precise\, elegant finish \nChâteau Mont-Redon Châteauneuf-du-Pape \nOur journey continues to the southern Rhône Valley with Château Mont-Redon Châteauneuf-du-Pape\, one of France’s most historic and prestigious red wine appellations\, known for rich and powerful blends dominated by Grenache. \nTasting Notes:\n• Dark cherry\, blackberry\, and plum aromas\n• Pepper\, dried herbs\, and lavender notes\n• Earthy undertones with leather and spice\n• Full-bodied with rich texture\n• Smooth tannins and warming alcohol\n• Long savoury finish with garrigue character \nDomaine Yannick Amirault Bourgueil Côte 50 \nFinally\, we finish in the Loire Valley with Domaine Yannick Amirault Bourgueil Côte 50\, an elegant Cabernet Franc from biodynamic hillside vineyards celebrated for freshness and structure. \nTasting Notes:\n• Fresh raspberry and red cherry aromas\n• Violet and floral perfume\n• Bell pepper and herbal Cabernet Franc character\n• Earthy graphite and forest-floor notes\n• Medium-bodied with lively acidity\n• Fine tannins and elegant structure \nIf you would like to join this event\, please click the button below. \nRegister Now

SUMMARY:Join Us For A Pinot Celebration with Professor Michael Milgate
DESCRIPTION:Friday 12 June from 18:00 in the Dining Room. Cost $125 Members and $135 Guests (includes dinner and wine) \nJoin Professor Michael Milgate for a night built around one grape\, great food\, and a milestone worth celebrating\, his 60th birthday. The format is simple: five flights\, each one a stop on a journey through the world of Pinot. \nThe evening departs with a glass of Blanc de Noir Champagne\, your pre-boarding drink before the journey begins in earnest. \nFlight 1 — Pinot Blanc & Pinot Gris The first leg takes us through the aromatic whites of the Pinot family. Tiefenbrunner Merus 2022\, Brokenwood 2017\, Hugel 2010 Grossi Laüe\, and Poppies 2024\, plus a mystery old world white to ease you into the journey. Stone fruit\, citrus\, and a bit of texture. \nFlight 2 — Australian Pinot Noir We touch down in Australia\, Corduroy 2020 Pedro’s\, Petrichor 2020 Tea Tree Vineyard\, Whisson Lake 2017 Piccadilly Valley\, and Kooyong 2019 Haven. A look at what local producers are doing with this tricky grape\, and doing well. \nFlight 3 — International Pinot Noir The journey heads abroad\, High Garden 2020 and Dicey 2021 Black Rabbit from Central Otago\, Zena Crown 2021 from Oregon’s Willamette Valley\, and a mystery new world red from an unlikely old world grape. Red fruit\, savoury edges\, and fine tannins throughout. \nFlight 4 — The Heavy Hitters Our highest altitude stop. Bodega Chacra 2019 Treinta y Dos (Argentina)\, Oraterra 2023 (Martinborough)\, Domaine des Perdrix 2021 Échezeaux Grand Cru\, and Faiveley 2020 Charmes Chambertin Grand Cru. The Burgundy grands crus alone make this leg of the journey worth the ticket. \nFlight 5 — Dessert Pinot Gris Every great journey deserves a smooth landing. Greywacke 2023 Botrytis and Poppies 2024 Late Picked bring things to a close\, honeyed\, lively\, and just sweet enough to send you home happy. \nThroughout the journey\, a duck-focused dinner has been designed to sit alongside each flight rather than compete with it. And there’s a surprise gift waiting for one lucky passenger on the night. \nSpots are limited. If you’d like to join this event\, click below. \nRegister Now

SUMMARY:Finding Sanity: A Literary Lunch with Greg de Moore\, the Story About the Australian Who Changed Mental Health Forever
DESCRIPTION:Thursday 18 June from 12:00 in the Dining Room\nCost: $68 per person (includes 2-course lunch and a drink). \nThis isn’t your usual Book Club meeting. On Thursday 18 June\, the Club welcomes Greg de Moore\, co-author of Finding Sanity\, for a proper sit-down lunch in the Dining Room\, where he’ll share the extraordinary story behind one of Australia’s most important and least-known medical discoveries. \nFinding Sanity: John Cade\, Lithium and the Taming of Bipolar Disorder tells the story of a remarkable Australian doctor who\, in 1948\, worked alone in a disused hospital kitchen\, fresh back from years as a prisoner of war\, and quietly changed the course of modern psychiatry. John Cade’s discovery of lithium as a treatment for manic depression remains the first pharmacological treatment for mental illness ever found\, and the gold standard to this day. \nIt’s a story about brilliance in obscurity\, persistence without recognition\, and one man’s humanity in the face of enormous suffering. Greg de Moore brings it to life with the kind of detail and warmth that has seen readers describe the book as an intimate and illuminating peek into the life of an Aussie doctor who changed medical history. \nOver a glass of wine and a lunch\, you’ll hear directly from the author\, the research behind the book\, the man behind the discovery\, and why this story matters more than ever. \nWhether or not you’ve read the book\, this is an afternoon well worth your time. \nIf you would like to join\, please register by clicking the button below. \nRegister Now

SUMMARY:Chess Club Is Back! Can You Solve This Puzzle?
DESCRIPTION:Wednesday 24 June from 18:00 to 20:00 in the Members Bar. \nMany of our Chess players are just like you! Many are inspired by the Queens Gambit and love problem-solving; others bask in heritage shared by the Club and grew up with the story of Kings and Queens. This month\, we are looking to grow our Chess sub club and encourage like-minded individuals to the board. If you have enjoyed our chess puzzles\, then this evening is for you! \nIt doesn’t matter if you’re an experienced player or looking to learn the game in a welcoming environment\, all members are invited to take part in a social evening of chess. The night will begin with a selection of chess puzzles before members settle in for casual games throughout the evening. \nMembers are also encouraged to enjoy the Club’s weekly pizza and pasta night while playing\, making for a great evening of food and friendly competition. \nIf you would like to join the next Chess Club\, please click the button below. \nHint for the Puzzle: Think French Words! \n\nClick here to find out the answer!\nToday we explore the term of En passant\, translating to In passing. Firstly\, we notice two Black Rooks on our back tiles that can checkmate on their next move. This means as White\, we must find a checkmate on our first move. Here we take the White Bishop on A8 and place it on E4. The only defence black has here is the Black Pawn on F7 to F5 to block check. Now\, here is where the En Passant comes into play. If a Black Pawn moves two moves at once in front of a White Pawn\, the White Pawn is allowed to take the Black pawn\, this is known as En Passant. So we use this play\, and our White Pawn on G6 will take the Black Pawn and end up on F6. This now allows the White Bishop to checkmate the Black King\, as the White Rook is covering the 8 row. \n\nRegister Now
