On August 15, Ferragosto celebrates the Assumption in the Catholic church, which is the ascent of the Virgin Mary into heaven. You might not be aware but this holiday had a secular significance in Italy long before it gained religious importance.
During Roman times, Ferragosto festivities included thrilling horse races. Today, this holiday combines elements from both Roman and Catholic traditions and serves as the semi-official culmination of Italy’s summer vacation season.
In the spirit of Ferragosto, Italians typically escape the city to enjoy a grand family lunch. From Monday, August 14 to Friday, August 18 the Club will celebrate touches of Italy.
