Our Club takes great pride in its long-standing swimming heritage, a tradition that continues to thrive through the lessons provided by our Swim Coach, Ewen. These sessions help members of all abilities build confidence in the water while refining their technique and enjoyment of the sport. Below, member Matt Braithwaite-Young shares his experience and reflects on the impact the lessons have had on him.

Last week, at Mal’s suggestion (our Athletic Department manager), I joined the Friday 16:15 swim skills session with coach Ewen. This new session is not your usual lap swimming, which I can sometimes find repetitive. Instead, it is a fast-paced, skills-based workout that keeps things engaging and enjoyable.
Ewen guided us through several form-focused laps, followed by high-energy turns practice and mixed drills. Remarkably, he even taught me breaststroke and backstroke in a single session, quite an achievement and a testament to his coaching expertise.
It is a strong workout and a fantastic way to delay, or perhaps atone for, the traditional end-of-week TGIF visit to the Members Bar.
My congratulations to Mal and Ewen for creating this innovative new Athletic Department offer. I highly recommend it to other members.
