Wednesday 02 October from 18:00 to 20:00 in the Dining Room
Join Professor Milgate, an expert in wine, for a Wine Tasting with a selection of German Rieslings: featured wines including Trocken, Kabinett, Spätlese, and rare sweet wines like Beerenauslese (BA) and Trockenbeerenauslese (TBA).
The tasting begins with dry Trocken wines, such as Egon Müller’s Kanta Riesling and Eva Fricke’s Rheingau Rieslings, known for their vibrant acidity and minerality. Kabinett wines from Robert Weil and Joh Jos Prüm offer delicate, long-lived flavours, while Spätlese selections balance sweetness with refreshing acidity. Super sweet wines like Müller-Catoir’s Rieslaner Beerenauslese and Trockenbeerenauslese showcase concentrated flavours with honey, caramel, and exotic fruits.
The classification system ranges from Kabinett (light, off-dry) to Auslese (sweet, ripe), with rare and prized BA, Eiswein, and TBA wines showcasing exceptional sweetness, often influenced by noble rot. Notable producers include Egon Müller, Robert Weil, and Joh Jos Prüm, renowned for their mastery in crafting world-class Rieslings.
