Recap by member David Castle.

There is nothing more inspiring than to hear a speaker who is passionate about their subject. Greg de Moore, co-author of Finding Sanity was inspirational at our literary lunch on June 18.

The book is about Dr John Cade, a little-known Australian hero who discovered lithium as a cure for bipolar disease. Our book club had already read the book and given it high praise and top marks. However, Greg brought the book to life with his illustrated talk about Dr Cade and the process of writing the book.

He also answered questions on a wide variety of topics, including mental health (particularly among professional sportspeople), Australian writers and publishers, and the medical profession generally. As an associate professor of psychiatry, he was well equipped to answer a wide variety of questions and interact with all those present.

As a Club, we are privileged to have authors come to talk to us about their books. The Club does these events really well and all present were blown away by the quality of the presentation, setting and catering.

We will not quickly forget the occasion and hopefully our book club will continue to go from strength to strength. Please continue to support our literary lunches (open to all and the more the better) and our book club. You will find these experiences stimulating and enjoyable – being some of the many experiences offered by our Club.

If you would like to join the next Book Club, be sure to join us on Tuesday 30 June as we discuss Richard Osman’s The Thursday Murder Club. Please click the button below.
