The Great Southern in Western Australia is the largest wine region in Australia by area and is the second largest producer of grapes in Western Australia. It is a landscape of forested cliffs and stunning mountain ranges, breathtaking coastlines, rolling green pastures and towns steeped in history. It comprises five subregions: Albany, Denmark, Frankland River, Mount Barker and Porongurup.

So it is only fitting that Tattersalls have recently listed the 2020 Rosenthal The Collector Chardonnay from Mount Barker. Rosenthal Wines is not only a boutique winery but a five-star wine as voted by Halliday in the Wine Companion.

The Collector Range represents the premium tier of Rosenthal Wines single varietals by best mates and winemakers Luke Eckersley and Coby Ladwig. They are inseparable and hold the same belief that great wines must come from great grapes. They are described as simply ‘two young gun winemakers raising a ruckus out west’.

The 2020 vintage is medium-bodied with flavours of stone fruit and funky wild ferment notes, a rich chardonnay nicely paired with our new main on the menu – Grilled Tasmanian ocean trout served with grilled asparagus, baby onion, pea purée and vin juane sauce. It works so well because the layers of fruit and oak are interspersed, which helps reflect the richness of the overall buttery sauce.
