As 2025 draws to a close, we take a moment to reflect on the events and competitions that filled the Club with energy, achievement and plenty of memorable moments throughout the year.
Across the Athletic Department, 2025 was defined by the competitive spirit of our members. This was reflected in our AD Members of the Month, with members achieving strong results across domestic and international competitions, as well as within the Club. Highlights included Chris Fydler winning his age group in the Bosphorus Strait Race; Guy Farrow breaking 3 swimming records across two events; and our Sportsperson of the Year, Paris Zhang, who competed in 12 races, won 12 gold medals, and broke three national and eight state records.
Beyond competition, 2025 also delivered a strong and varied events calendar across the Club. A standout moment took place on 12 September, when we welcomed Olympic and Tattersalls legends Chris Fydler, Ian Thorpe, Michael Klim and Ashley Callus to celebrate the historic 4 x 100m Men’s Relay victory from 25 years ago, a proud Australian achievement and a memorable occasion for members.
Food & Beverage events continued to play a central role in the Club’s calendar, bringing members together across our dining and bar spaces. Member Michael Milgate’s popular Wine Dinners once again filled the Dining Room, showcasing standout wines from around the world. This year also saw the introduction of new experiences, including the Club’s first Crabshack Louisiana-style dinner, and Lobster Lunch in which both quickly became talking points among members throughout the year.
Another highlight was the introduction of our seasonal Long Lunches, which have fast become a much-anticipated addition to the events program. Our kitchen team crafts a distinctive menu for each occasion, drawing on seasonal ingredients and innovative techniques. The reaction was extremely positive, as members didn’t take long to express their appreciation by sending us their feedback.
Alongside these new additions, members continued to enjoy the Club’s much-loved annual events, including the Club Anniversary, Melbourne Cup celebrations and, of course, the Christmas Party, a fitting way to bring the year to a close and celebrate another successful year together.
As we wrap up 2025 and look ahead to 2026, we reflect on a year that balanced competition, connection and memorable experiences across the Club.
Here’s to 2025, and bring on 2026.
