Whisky of the Month No. 21 is Jameson Caskmates Stout Edition, a unique Irish whiskey born from an innovative collaboration between Jameson and Dublin’s Franciscan Well Brewery.
The story began when Jameson supplied used Irish whiskey barrels to the brewery, where they were filled with stout beer for maturation. Once the stout had developed its character, the barrels were returned to Jameson and refilled with whiskey. The result was an unexpected success, with the whiskey developing subtle roasted malt and chocolate notes while retaining the smooth, approachable style that has made Jameson famous around the world.
Colour: Warm golden amber with honey highlights, bright and clear in appearance.
Nose: Fresh orchard fruits and soft vanilla layered with roasted malt, cocoa, light coffee and gentle oak.
Palate: Smooth and creamy with flavours of milk chocolate, caramel and toasted barley. Notes of roasted coffee develop through the middle palate with soft spice and subtle sweetness.
Water: A few drops of water soften the roasted notes and reveal more vanilla, toffee and fresh fruit characteristics. Best enjoyed with only a small amount.
Finish: Medium length with lingering chocolate, toasted grain, delicate coffee bitterness and soft oak.
A balanced and approachable Irish whiskey, Jameson Caskmates Stout Edition combines traditional Irish whiskey making with modern craft brewing influence, delivering layers of chocolate, roasted malt and gentle sweetness without becoming heavy.
