On a crisp winter’s evening, three bottles sat quietly in the Members Bar,  each one a vessel of place, craftsmanship, and character. Though united by the delicate Pinot Noir grape, their personalities told vastly different stories.

Babich Black Label Pinot Noir – (Marlborough NZ). This Marlborough veteran. With deep ruby hues and a nose full of dark berries, plum, and toasty oak, this Pinot is as elegant as it is expressive. A subtle thread of vanilla lingers behind the fruit, while the palate is framed by fine, chalky tannins.

Fetherston Estate Pinot Noir – (Yarra Valley VIC). The vibrant modernist. This medium-bodied beauty speaks in bright notes of cherry, red fruit, blood orange, and spice. A whisper of mint and perfume lifts the nose, while firm tannins and a long, clean finish give it poise and presence.

Paringa Estate ‘Coronella’ Pinot Noir – (Mornington Peninsula VIC). The structured classicist. A wine of depth and intent, the Coronella layers dark cherry and forest floor with savoury spice and finely grained tannin. Elegant, complex, and built to age — this is Pinot with quiet confidence.

Each of these wines finds a natural partner in our current Dining Room Menu: Grimaud Duck Pan-Seared with Potato Terrine, Broccolini, and Sherry Jus. The richness of the duck, the structure of the terrine, and the sweet warmth of the sherry jus all draw out different notes in each Pinot — fruit, spice, earth, and elegance. Together, they tell a delicious story.

Whether you are after richness, vibrancy, or refinement — there is a glass for every mood, and a plate to match. Which one will you pour next?
