20L of hydrating fuel
3kgs of pure carbohydrates
240,000 steps registered on his watch.
6510 metres of elevation
161.4km completed
37hrs 42mins without sleep – pure running.
The above numbers represent Nick Berkley, our June AD MOTM, who recently completed the Hoka Ultra 100-mile event.
Completing the City to Surf a few years ago was the catalyst Nick needed to find and pursue his passion for running.
Over the last five years, Nick has chased further and further distances, accounting for a half and then a full Marathon. Nick knew he and his body could handle more.
Exactly one year ago, Nick completed the 100km UTMB in the Blue Mountains, known as the second hardest race in NSW.
Once Nick had ticked this off his bucket list (with ease) he knew that the next step (or 60,000 steps) would be to complete the famous 100-miler. Also known as the hardest race in NSW.
Following a structured running plan and fuelling himself with enough carbohydrates to power a small village, Nick completed the race in 37 hours, placing him in the top 300 of event finishers.
Not getting ahead of himself or overwhelmed by the challenge, Nick just kept putting one foot in front of the other, traversing the Blue Mountains with ease, all the while thinking about what his next challenge would be.
Well done, Nick on your amazing achievement- we look forward to seeing what comes next.
