MJ 101: Getting Started with Mahjong
This introductory lesson is perfect for anyone new to Mahjong. Within the hour, you’ll be playing! You’ll start by learning the names and types of tiles, focusing on recognising the Chinese characters using simple techniques. The game may seem complex initially, but once you get the hang of the basics, you’ll find that all Mahjong variants play the same way. By the end of this lesson, you’ll be able to identify the four essential moves and know exactly how to set up the game.
MJ 102: Mastering Combinations and Scoring
Once you’ve learned the basics and are ready to dive deeper, this lesson is about building your hand. Here, you’ll learn the various tile combinations and how to score points based on them. Additionally, we’ll teach you how to earn extra points by fulfilling special conditions. By the end of this lesson, you’ll understand how to score effectively and maximise your hand value, giving you the tools to play strategically.
MJ 103: Advanced Strategy and Player Reading
The most challenging aspect of Mahjong is not just your own hand but reading the other players and predicting their moves. While there’s always an element of luck involved, reading the table and countering your opponents’ strategies is a skill that can make a huge difference. This final lesson focuses on advanced strategies, such as when to hold back, when to go all in, and how to control the pace of the game. With a mix of careful observation and strategic planning, luck will often be on your side.
