You’re going to be watching a lot of French sport over the next few years!  On November 24, 2022 Australia plays France in round one of group D in the World Cup.  Then on top of the regular Tour de France and French Open we have the Rugby League World cup in 2023 and the Paris Olympics in 2024.

Last Friday -appropriately the day after Bastille day – the Club celebrated by welcoming the Consul General for France, Anne Boillon and Stephanie Morley from Trade France.

Following a French-themed lunch prepared by chef Fernando,  Anne gave Members her observations on the nature of trade between Australia and France, highlighting our countries’ shared love of sport in culture.  Stephanie then outlined the facts and details of sporting trade in France, noting its has many links with Australia and opportunities for business.

After the keynote, the – by now very enthusiastic – lunch group welcomed Adam Santo, CEO of Sydney Football Club and Jason Hill from TJC (Australia’s sport & venues expert) for a panel discussion and questions from the floor facilitated by Business Forum convener Matt Braithwaite-Young.  As always Members asked some brilliant questions and shared an engaging discussion with Jason and Adam where they shared the secrets of the business of sport from the insiders view.

After a final Q&A session with Anne and Stephanie, a satisfied lunch group split into two groups – those going back to the office and those who had time to stick around and enjoy the Club’s famous afternoon hospitality.

The Business of Sport lunch was the third in the series of Consuls visiting the club (we’ve now had India, Canada and France) and it’s a winning format with Members able to enjoy lunch and socializing while also getting the inside scoop on the wider word of trade.  Keep an eye out for the next event and email at events@tattersallsclub.org to register your interest.

Stephanie Morley was kind enough to share her presentation slides for our entire membership so if you’re interested to learn more about France and Sport – including Fantasy Sport and e-sport – click this link to reveal all!
