In the second instalment of the Club’s groundbreaking Impact series, business leader Ruth Medd excelled in engaging the members in a cerebral conversation. It not only inspired the Members but also educated them on the power of a balanced board.

Ruth Medd is the founder of the famous Women on Boards organisation which has over 50,000 friends and has highly influenced the Australian boards to recruit Women, while also helping candidates to become board-ready.  She has served on boards of many companies and charities after a career that started in mathematics and acceleration of information technologies.

Ruth started the keynote with stories of her youth and her rise in the business industry before answering questions from the floor about the ins and outs of directorship.

Members were really keen to hear about Ruth’s recent involvement in Charley’s Chocolate, which grew from crowd-funded capital to turning into premium Australian-grown cocoa from Mission Beach into the best craft chocolate in the world.

Furthermore, for aspiring directors, Ruth shared a really valuable piece of advice, in her experience people are often ready for the experience of leading on a board before they ‘FEEL’ ready.  So her tip for the Members is to make sure you let people know you’re interested in board roles because they may not ask, and they need to know!

Ruth, thank you for sharing your profound wisdom with our Members and encouraging them to get involved with boards.
