Lilly Singh wrote “Life is designed to knock you down. It will knock you down time and time again, but it doesn’t matter how many times you fall – it matters how many times you get back up.”
This quote sums up our December AD Member of the Month to the core.
After suffering a horrific injury from a motorbike crash that involved multiple surgeries in June of this year, our AD MOTM Peter Hedge has come back with a bang.
When Peter returned to the AD for the first time he was on crutches and, his ankle was swollen to the point that he couldn’t wear a sock and everyday tasks seemed beyond reach.
For those of you who know Peter, it was only a matter of time until he had found something else to turn his attention to. Armed with a strong mindset, determination and trained by one of our amazing Personal Trainers, Peter shifted his goal from the Noosa Triathlon to competing in one of the most draining ski races in the Fenn West coast Downwinder a 24km race from Port Beach, Fremantle to Sorrento Beach.
As mentioned above, Peter is known for his determination and can-do attitude. We can’t help but think that’s why, a week after completing the Fenn Race, Peter took on “The Doctor” – a 27.5km ski paddle starting at the Army Jetty on Rottnest Island and finishing at Sorrento Beach.
Known as one of the hardest races in WA and on one of the hottest November days recorded (hitting 37*) Peter completed the paddle in 2 hours and 34 minutes, this time managed to place him inside the top 35 paddlers of his age group.
Again, we take this time to remind the readers of this article, that four months prior to this massive achievement Peter was on an operating table doing his best impersonation of the bionic man.
It’s for this reason, for showing determination, grit, heart and daring to dream that we award Peter Decembers AD MOTM.
Well Done Peter on your success, we can’t wait to see what next year brings.
