The Athletic Department has recently been boosted with the addition of Valerie. She joins the AD team with a wealth of knowledge and experience. Valerie’s background includes working as a high school teacher, managing one of Sydney’s premier restaurants and working at Sydney’s most elite personal training studios.

Having been mentored by some of the best in the industry, Valerie brings a new dimension to our team and will work closely with the rest of the staff to focus on health, wellness and fitness for the members.

Name and position: Valerie Best , Members Services Athletics Department

How long have you been here: Since mid May this year, so around 2 months, but as my position is a casual one with variable days and hours as needed on a monthly roster, members are still surprised by my presence and I am still meeting new Members.

The best thing about Tattersalls Club: It is absolutely unique in every aspect – location, facilities, decor, traditions, community, members, culture and offerings. It needs to be cherished and future-proofed (which costs a lot of money).

How do you relax outside of the Club: My first go-to is strength training – strong body/healthy mind. I love good food and restaurants – best experience of the year to date was a long boozy Sunday lunch at Icebergs to celebrate my son Ethan’s birthday a couple of weeks ago. I also love the Cocktail and Whiskey Bar Scene offered by the Swill Group and of course, a good Ale session at The Lord Nelson – it sounds like it’s a good thing I’m currently doing Dry July. Have to finish with a good Netflix show on the couch – just watched the doco SPRINT – so good. Bigger picture TRAVEL of course – Skiing in Whistler last year and the most remote place I’ve ever been, FOGO Island Inn.

What is your go-to fitness Mantra: Zen and the Art of Body Maintenance – for me, a flow state, comes with the combination of music and lifting weights. I’m motivated by the constant desire to improve.

What influence are you having on the club this week: I always hope to have a POSITIVE influence by aiming for my personal best at whatever I do, simple or complex.

We’re thrilled to have Valerie join our athletic department! If you haven’t had the chance to meet her yet, please make sure to give her a warm welcome.
