As you know, we have had the pleasure of having several potential Olympians training with us over the last few months in preparation for the Olympic Trials, which commence next week (June 10-15).

The swimmers, and their coach Leanne Speechley, come to us from NSW’s number one swimming club, Knox Pymble, who is a school-based program located at the Knox Grammar and Pymble Ladies College pools.

What makes these athletes unusual is that they are all either studying or working in the city, as well as swimming. To help the swimmers manage their time, and also allow her to focus on her senior athletes, Leanne was looking for a high-quality city-based pool to coach her team twice a week.

The Tattersalls 25m pool with its wide lanes, racing blocks, and comprehensive gym was the perfect venue. There are 5 swimmers who have trained regularly at Tattersalls with Leanne:

  • Joel Ivory  (consultant at EY – Financial Sector)
  • Paris Zhang (5th year medical student)
  • Gabriel Gorgas (3rd year legal student)
  • Bella Zhang (1st year Computer Science student); and
  • Claudia Fydler (5th year Business and International Studies student)

Throughout their preparation, many Tattersalls members have observed and been impressed by the dedication and physical prowess of the Knox Pymble team both in the water and in the gym. Many have also enjoyed chatting and learning from their energetic and friendly coach.

Unfortunately, during their preparation Joel (shoulder) and Paris (foot) suffered injuries which will prevent them from competing next week, however, the remaining athletes will be competing in the following events.
