Are you ready to enjoy one of the most famous cocktails with gin? So famous that the name comes from an anecdote that gained popularity in the United States during the 1870s.

Two friends were jocularly talking, and one warns the other that a certain ‘Tom Collins’ is spreading slander about him. Before the confrontation, the victim leaves furious from the place looking for Collins, not realising that he never existed. The story became so popular in New York and Philadelphia that it was christened ‘The Great Tom Collins Hoax of 1874′ with newspapers publishing alleged sightings and songs dedicated to the fictional character.

Taking advantage of such fame, impervious to gossip, an uncouth bartender named John Collins gave the same name to the drink so that anyone who walked into the bar asking for Tom Collins was inadvertently asking for it.

So come in tonight to the Members’ Bar and ask for Tom, and the team will whip you up this classic cocktail in none other than a Collins glass.
