Showing no signs of slowing down, we would like to pay tribute to our homage of horse racing in Tattersalls’ whisky club. For our May whisky of the month, Tattersalls is (de)canter-ing the Woodford Reserve Double Oaked Bourbon.

In 2018, Thoroughbred racetrack Churchill Downs and Woodford whiskey producers announced a five-year agreement in which Woodford Reserve is the presenting sponsor of the Kentucky Derby, held on the first Saturday in May. Nothing says Kentucky like being the official bourbon of the Kentucky Derby – America’s oldest continuously held sports event with a history that dates back to 1875.

So let’s taste this May whisky together:

Colour: Deep amber, a good sign from all the different and high-quality oaks used

Nose: Dark fruits, honey and toasted oak, an indication of the heavily toasted, lightly charred barrels

Palate: A full bodied bourbon mixed of vanilla and dark caramel

Water: Strangely enough it tastes like an Old Fashioned! Orange zest and brown sugar

Finish: Long and creamy with lingering hints of honeyed apple. Imagine racehorses taking the time to graze on the fertile Kentucky bluegrass, shaded by oak and maple trees.
Members are still able to join previous years in the Whisky Club, or if you would like to enjoy this thoroughbred dram, please contact the team at dine@tattersallsclub.org for more information.

Stay tuned for our one-of-a-kind June whisky as we launch the last whisky in the ninth year of our whisky club next month!
