This month, we’re hitting the (fictional) water with Three Men in a Boat by Jerome K. Jerome, a classic comedy that proves Brits were making dry jokes long before Netflix specials.

It’s 1889, and the story follows three friends, Jerome (the narrator), George, and Harris, who, along with their dog Montmorency, embark on a boating holiday along the River Thames in England to escape their supposed overwork and stress. What follows? Chaos. Ducks. Tinned pineapples. A lot of moaning. And a very funny take on the quirks of Victorian life.

Witty, wandering, and weirdly relatable, this one’s stood the test of time for a reason.
