By Membership & Marketing Manager DJ Munro

After Athletic Manager Malcolm Turnbull had a very successful stint at the NACAD conference in Los Angeles a couple of weeks ago (Athletic Director of the year anyone?), General Manager Des Mulcahy and I headed off to the Private Club Membership Professionals (PCMP) conference in St Louis, Missouri last week.

Missouri Athletic Club and Saint Louis Club were our gracious hosts and put on a very informative schedule of events across an intensive two-day download. Des and I learned from many of the best Private Clubs in North America, and were able to share knowledge of how Clubs downunder are faring.

We learned how Clubs were coping with the ‘aftermath’ of COVID-19 – what beat us up, what built us up, what we learned, what made us laugh, and what we might do differently next time. Importantly, discussion always focused on looking forward to recovery and getting back to a level keel.

We also had plenty of round-table discussions on topics such as Member recruitment & retention, marketing & communications, technology & analytics, and diversity, equity & inclusion. And capped off our talks with ‘What’s the Big Idea’ where Clubs are invited to present the most amazing concept they’ve implemented in the previous 12 months – many notes were definitely taken to try these at Tattersalls Club!

Of course, no trip to St Louis would be complete without catching a Cardinals game, and our hosts even organized for The Cards to beat the Phillies 6-1 (much to the disappointment of the Union League Club of Philadelphia representatives present).

This is PCMP number six for General Manager Des Mulcahy (and number one for myself), and many of the wonderful ideas shared at the conference go on to become much-loved benefits of Members here at Tattersalls Club, and of course, our Aussie ideas thrive in North America too. We look forward to bringing our latest raft of ideas to life for our Members here at home.

First cab off the rank, however, is a newly-formed Reciprocal Club partnership between Tattersalls and Saint Louis Club. With 34 chefs on staff, Saint Louis Club is known as the ‘menu Club’ and serves up amazing food across its three levels on the top floors of the city’s western CBD. Tattersalls also recently partnered with Missouri Athletic Club in November last year, so our Members can enjoy a wealth of experiences when they next visit the eclectic city.
